PSG confirm David Luiz move
Paris Saint-Germain have announced that an agreement has been reached with Chelsea for the signature of Brazil defender David Luiz, who will sign a four-year deal when the transfer window opens on June 10.
Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has long been a fan of dynamic defender Luiz and on Saturday Le Président got his wish as the capital club announced having agreed terms with Chelsea on a €49.5m, four year deal for the Brazil international.
Currently in his homeland preparing for the summer's World Cup, Luiz took time out to undergo a medical exam in the presence of PSG's doctors, and now all that remains is the putting of pen to paper once the transfer window officially opens on June 10.
"Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and David Luiz would like to confirm that they have reached an agreement on the conditions of a future transfer of the Brazil defender, which will be effected as soon as the next transfer window opens," read the official statement on PSG's website.
"To respond to the wishes of the player, who wants to prepare for and play in the World Cup in his homeland in the best possible conditions, both clubs and the player agreed it was best to reach an agreement between the clubs as well as between the player and the Parisian club such that the transfer could be effected immediately the window opens."
The former Benfica man, whose transfer fee could be accompanied by up to €10m in bonuses, immediately made his feelings known through his Twitter account.
"Thank you Chelsea for three and a half years of great partnership! Now I have new challenges to face and will do my best to achieve them all! Allez Paris!"
The versatile defender, 27, who can also play in a defensive midfield role, will join a host of compatriots at the capital club - Thiago Silva, Thiago Motta, Marquinhos, Alex, Maxwell and Lucas Moura - but it was Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was first to welcome his new teammate.
"Another monster in PSG's defence," Zlatan announced on his mobile app 'Zlatan Unplugged'. "I can't wait to start the new season, and the holidays have only just begun."
