Rose swaps Lyon for Lorient

FC Lorient have announced the signature of Olympique Lyonnais stopper Lindsay Rose, on a loan deal with option to buy. The former Valenciennes man has made just the one appearance so far this season.

Rose, 23, spent the first half of the season on the outer under former Lyon coach Hubert Fournier, and as it looked likely that things would remain the same way under new coach Bruno Génésio, the ex-Stade Lavallois defender decided for a move away.

"My transfer to Lorient didn't happen the first time around, even though I was very keen to come," explained the native of the Brittany region, who has signed on loan until the end of the season, when Les Merlus will have the option to make the move permanent. "That's why I gave FC Lorient priority this time around. It's a real pleasure to arrive here today. I needed to find a new challenge, with a coach and technical staff prepared to put their faith in me. The club's directors are all on the same page and I really felt that they wanted me. That was important."

Mutual feeling

While Rose believes he has found what he was looking for, coach Sylvain Ripoll said is of the firm belief that the 1m84 central defender has what it takes to be a real plus for the club.

"Lindsay is a player who we have been keeping an eye on regularly, from before he left Valenciennes and then at Lyon," noted contented Lorient coach Sylvain Ripoll, who also secured the loan of Gabon international stopper Yrondu Musavu-King from Spanish side Grenada. "He was in a tough spot at OL and that allowed us to bing him here. He needs to find his rhythm and consistency, but he's a player with a lot of potential, and that's what interests us.

"He will help us to keep up in the second half of the season and he has the qualities to fit into the squad well. He's a complete defender and we have every reason to hope that his best qualities will surface soon. He's coming here with a view to enjoying his football and he is determined to work hard."
