Roussillon denies Lille precious victory
Jérôme Roussillon was on target for Montpellier Hérault SC in a 1-1 stalemate at struggling LOSC on Saturday.
LOSC 1 - 1 Montpellier Hérault SC
In the midst of a poor run of form that has prevented them from climbing away from the foot of the table, a meeting with a Montpellier side competing for European qualification was probably not what Lille wanted.
However, the home side managed to draw first blood, scoring four minutes before the interval. Yassine Benzia cut in from the right flank and teed up Nicolas Pépé, who took a touch as he burst into the area before finishing low past Benjamin Lecomte for his ninth Ligue 1 Conforama goal of the season and his fourth in five games (41').
Montpellier drew level just after the hour mark, though, as highly-regarded left-back Roussillon collected possession in a central position, strode forward and beat Mike Maignan with a fine low strike from range (64').
A draw was a fair result although neither side will be too pleased - Lille remain in the relegation zone and are now six games without a win, while Montpellier are still just as difficult to beat but lose ground on FC Nantes, who are now fifth, a position that could be enough for a UEFA Europa League berth come the season's end.
THE PLAYER: Nicolas Pépé
These are difficult times for Lille, and Christophe Galtier is finding it difficult to turn around the fortunes of the northern side. However, Galtier does seem to be getting something like the best out of Pépé, with the young Ivorian forward getting his fifth league goal of 2018 and his fourth in five outings.
THE STAT: 6
Lille are six games without a win, while Montpellier are unbeaten in six Ligue 1 Conforama outings. Only Paris Saint-Germain have beaten Michel Der Zakarian's side in their last 11 league games.
