Season over for Audel

FC Nantes forward Johan Audel has been ruled out for the remaining five games of the current season with a calf injury picked up in the 2-1 defeat to Stade Reims on Saturday.

As luck - or bad luck - would have it, Audel had scored just his second league goal of the season, and his first since Week 20 when he picked up the calf injury that forced him off in the 71st minute.

Further examinations on the injury following the match revealed that he will be unable to return to action before the end of the season, meaning that Michel Der Zakarian's side - who have lost their last three on the bounce and dropped to tenth after being as high as fifth in early March - will have to do without the veteran forward in a season run-in that features clashes with Montpellier, Marseille, Nice, Caen and Paris Saint-Germain.

Audel's current contract is set to expire in June this year, and although Nantes have the contractual option to extend his deal by another year, his return of just six goals in 61 appearances for Les Canaris over the last three seasons since his return to Ligue 1 from VfB Stuttgart could come into play.
