Sow strike not enough for Lille

Lille moved back to the top of the table on Sunday but had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to fellow title-chasers Lyon despite Moussa Sow striking a 17th goal of the season.

LILLE 1-1 LYON

The former Rennes forward helped take his current employers back in front of his ex-club when he fired home just eight minutes in. However, Lille's lead over the Bretons is down to goal difference after Kim Kallstrom's 26th-minute strike earned Lyon a point.

Lyon had lost their previous three competitive fixtures in Lille, and were immediately on the back foot as the hosts' formidable attacking machine quickly clicked into gear.

When the excellent Eden Hazard's free-kick was flicked on at the near post by Adil Rami, Sow proved sharper than Aly Cissokho to stab the ball beyond Hugo Lloris from close range.

Lyon, though, have proved almost as prolific as Lille in the last couple of weeks, plundering eight goals in their last two Ligue 1 matches, and after Jimmy Briand and the hosts' Yohan Cabaye had both missed chances, Kallstrom showed them the way.

The Swede followed the move as Anthony Réveillère raced down the flank, and when Aurélien Chedjou's headed clearance dropped invitingly, Kallstrom crashed a sublime strike beyond Mickaël Landreau.

Instinctive stop

Gervinho proved far less accurate than Kallstrom as he wasted two shooting opportunities - firing wildly wide of the target when well-placed - though Rami did force Lloris into action with a fierce first-time drive the French number one did well to parry.

It was Lyon, though, who carved out the best opportunities to add to the scoreline, and Jérémy Toulalan would have but for an instinctive flying stop from Landreau - the ex-PSG and Nantes 'keeper hurled himself to his left to turn a point-blank shot around the post.

Landreau was called on again to deny Briand in the closing stages - diving bravely at the former Rennes striker's feet - while Lloris would have been relieved to see a header from substitute Tulio de Melo arrow straight into his grasp with the clock ticking down.
