Statattack Week 23: Diabaté in form
Giant Malian striker Cheick Diabaté is back on form and so were Montpellier Hérault SC in Week 23. Statattack...
Montpellier Hérault SC returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 with a thumping 4-0 win away to GFC Ajaccio in Week 23. It is just the second time this season that a side has won by a four-goal margin away from home after Olympique Lyonnais triumphed by the same score at SM Caen in Week 4.
The win was Montpellier's first against newly-promoted opposition this season after one draw and two defeats in their three previous such encounters - indeed it was the first time they had scored against newly-promoted opponents this season. Bryan Dabo scored a brace for the first time in a Ligue 1 game and has now set personal bests for goals (3), matches played (22) and minutes played (1,825) this season.
The best performances
3: Angers SCO beat AS Monaco 3-0 to claim their first win by a three-goal margin in the top flight since a 4-1 win against AJ Auxerre in November 1980.
5: Wissam Ben Yedder has scored Toulouse FC's last five goals in Ligue 1, the best performance by a Toulouse player since Johan Elmander netted seven in a row in December 2007.
19: SC Bastia claimed their 19th home win against Olympique Lyonnais in the top flight. They have recorded more home wins against OL in the elite than against any other club.
3: Zargo Touré netted both goals in FC Lorient's 2-0 win against Stade de Reims. He has scored three times in 31 Ligue 1 appearances, having scored just twice in 206 matches in Ligue 2.
4: Girondins de Bordeaux's 4-0 win against Stade Rennais FC was the first time they had won by a four-goal margin in any competition since a 5-1 win against EA Guingamp in April 2014.
4: Paris Saint-Germain have won on each of their last three visits to play AS Saint-Etienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard (two in Ligue 1 and one in the Coupe de la Ligue). Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored all four of PSG's goals during that run.
After failing to score a single goal in Ligue 1 in 2015, the giant Malian striker already has five in 2016 after bagging a brace in Girondins de Bordeaux's 4-0 win against Stade Rennais FC.
4: Diabaté has become the first Bordeaux player to score in four consecutive Ligue 1 matches since Yoan Gouffran netted four in four games from Week 10-13 in 2012-13.
7: Diabaté has already scored seven times in all competitions this season, including five in Ligue 1, after scoring just once in the whole of an injury-hit 2014-15 season.
60 percent: He has scored 60 percent (3 out of 5) of his goals in Ligue 1 this season with his head. Before this season, only 20 percent (8 out of 40) of his Ligue 1 goals had come from headers.
