Transfer round-up: Closing-day commotion
Anthony Martial's €60m move from AS Monaco to Manchester United may have dominated the headlines, but there was plenty of other action going on as the summer transfer window slammed shut in France on Monday night.
Evidently Monaco couldn't refuse Manchester United's assault for strike prodigy Anthony Martial, the 19-year-old - who has started just 32 Ligue 1 matches - heading across the channel on the final day of the summer transfer window to join the Red Devils for the astronomical fee of €60 (plus bonuses).
OL stock up
Meanwhile there was plenty of action concerning players arriving in - or returning to - France, notably with Olympique Lyonnais clinching the services of Spain youth international Sergi Darder from Malaga for €12m. The promising 22-year-old midfielder, who became OL's most expensive signing since the arrival of Yoann Gourcuff, signed a five-year deal.
As did France U-19 international Lucas Tousart, who moved from Ligue 2 side Valenciennes for the more modest fee of €2.5, along with France U-19 teammate Olivier Kemen, who left England's Newcastle for €750,000 to become the tenth midfield name on Olympique Lyonnais's roster. OL did see some departures too, with Yassine Benzia moving to Lille for four seasons on a €1m transfer.
OM in the mix
Olympique de Marseille were also active on the final day, clinching FC Porto's Portugal international stopper Rolando while Brazilian defender Doria - who hasn't played a single game for the southern giants since signing a year ago - has been loaned to La Liga outfit Grenada for one season (with option to buy).
Meanwhile former Marseille captain Lorik Cana makes his return to Ligue 1 on a two-year deal with Nantes, the Albania midfielder having passed through Sunderland, Galatasaray and Lazio in the six years since leaving OM. Nantes also welcomed PSG youth academy product Youssouf Sabalay on a season-long loan.
Europa League pair bolster squads
Bordeaux claimed the last-minute signature of Brazilian stopper Pablo Costa on a €2m, four-year deal from Ponte Preta while OGC Nice signed last season's Ligue 2 top scorer (18 goals) Mickaël Le Bihan from Le Havre (details not announced).
Saint-Etienne continued their recruitment drive by clinching the arrival of Slovenian forward Robert Beric from Rapid Vienna, Rennes stitched up season-long loan deals for Chelsea's 18-year-old French attacking midfielder Jérémie Boga and FC Porto's Colombian international forward Juan Quintero.
