Troyes inflict new defeat on Lille
Adama Niane's goal gave ESTAC Troyes a 1-0 victory over LOSC, who drop back into the bottom three.
ESTAC Troyes 1 - 0 LOSC
Nicolas Pépé had scored Lille's winner at SM Caen in Christophe Galtier's first Ligue 1 Conforama game as coach of the northern club a week ago, and he came close to putting the visitors ahead at the Stade de l'Aube from a first-half free-kick.
However, it was Troyes who got the breakthrough as the interval approached, Mathieu Deplagne crossing from the right for Niane to finish acrobatically past Mike Maignan from six yards out (45').
Lille's lack of firepower was exposed as they tried to get back into the game after the break. Substitute Farès Bahlouli came close late on, but Troyes held out to claim a first league win after three consecutive defeats. They move above LOSC, who drop into the relegation play-off place after this loss, which comes hot on the heels of their 2-1 home reverse to Stade Rennais FC in midweek.
THE PLAYER: Adama Niane
Malian forward Niane was the catalyst behind Troyes' run to promotion last season with 23 goals in Ligue 2. He has taken his time to adjust to the top flight and this was only his fourth goal of this campaign, although Troyes have not lost any game in which he has found the net.
THE STAT: 5
This was Galtier's first defeat to Troyes in five top-flight games against them as a coach. He had won three and drawn one of the previous four.
