| Coach and player nearly came to blows in the dressing room at half-time of the 2-0 defeat at Valenciennes last Saturday when Fabio Santos took exception to being substituted.
A club statement reads: "Lyon have started disciplinary proceedings. The player will take no part in the professional life of the squad until a decision has been taken as to what to do with him."
The Brazilian looks to have already played his last game for the club. The clash with Puel was witnessed by Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Aulas: 'Fabio Santos is finished here'
Aulas said: "It certainly wasn't Claude Puel's fault. As I witnessed what happened Fabio Santos is finished here. We'll help him leave, there's no other way. What happened at Valenciennes is my responsibility. There had already been an incident between Fabio Santos and [former Lyon coach] Gérard Houllier."
In better news for the club, forward Sidney Govou returned to full training on Tuesday and the French international could return to the first team at home to Nantes on May 12 just four months after rupturing his Achilles tendon. Brazilian skipper Juninho is also back in training after missing the Valenciennes debacle.
