Speculation has been mounting that the 30-year-old would swap the Stade Chaban-Delmas for the Stade Vélodrome, and Diawara has now publicly declared his desire to join the side he helped Bordeaux pip to the title last season.
"I've made my mind up – I want to go to Marseille," said the Senegalese international, who has rejected an extension to his current contract which runs until June 2011.
"My heart and my head are already there. Who can turn down Marseille? They are a big popular club, and play in front of exceptional fans in an exceptional atmosphere."

In two seasons in the south west, Diawara has become a fundamental part of Laurent Blanc's side, playing 35 league matches as Les Girondins picked up the title for the first time in a decade.
Despite the disruption the centre-back's departure will cause to Blanc's plans for the coming campaign, Diawara believes his boss will comprehend the reasons behind the decision.
"I'm sure that he'll understand," claimed Diawara. "He played for a lot of clubs during his career."
