Kombouaré: ‘A cruel result’
©PanoramicAntoine Kombouaré claimed his side’s 2-0 loss to Monaco was hard on the capital club, while Auxerre boss Jean Fernandez hopes his side’s first points of the season will set them on their way and Rennes’ Frédéric Antonetti leaned on the stats to sing his side’s praises.

 AS Monaco FC / Paris Saint-Germain : 2 - 0

Guy Lacombe (Monaco coach): "It's good to be unbeatable at home. It was an entertaining match that could have gone either way and in the end, luck chose us, perhaps because we were at home. Paris started well but then we came back into the game and we felt we could achieve something. We played well, but we still need to hold onto the ball longer and avoid giving it away in dangerous situations. Gudjohnsen still lacks a little match fitness and rhythm and he doesn't know his teammates yet. But he was still dangerous."

Antoine Kombouaré (PSG coach): "It's a cruel result. In the second half we did everything we could to try and bring home the three points. Monaco took two shots at goal and scored two goals. They took their chances. We had two great opportunities to open the scoring through Péguy (Luyindula) and Guillaume (Hoarau). Ruffier made some important saves. Like I said to the players, we're leaving with plenty to carry on our shoulders with a heavy defeat and the sending off of Stéphane (Sessegnon). Now we have to try and get our strength back and concentrate on Sunday's match against Lyon."

 Stade Rennais FC / AS Saint-Etienne : 1 - 0

Frédéric Antonetti (Rennes coach): "We thoroughly deserved our victory. We had 56 per cent of the possession against a team that came here to play football and we made 688 passes to just 560 for Saint-Etienne. My only real regret is that we didn't finish them off. We have to learn that in the penalty box you have make the right choices and we still have to improve in this department."

Alain Perrin (Saint-Etienne coach): "We knew it was going to be hard, but I'm disappointed by how we played in attack – we were very poor. We had the potential to bring back at least a pint from this game but we never looked like we would. The injuries in defence to Bayal and Dabo meant I couldn't make other changes. But I am satisfied by the spirit the players showed, they never gave up, like when Sanogo headed against the bar. There's no shame in losing 1-0 away to Rennes."

 AJ Auxerre / OGC Nice : 2 - 0

Jean Fernandez (Auxerre coach): "This win will do us the world of good. It wasn't an incredible match of football, but we did play well in periods. Jelen started the move for the first goal and his return to action after injury was very positive. It's no coincidence that we won in his first game back. T was good that Hengbart scored, but even better was his assist for the second goal. When you play with four at the back, the full-backs have to get forward to support the attack."

Didier Ollé-Nicolle (Nice coach): "It's a huge disappointment. We came here looking to set the record straight after our catastrophic match last time out. We played better, but it still wasn't good enough. Tactically, the team was good and I don't have any problems there. We lacked inspiration and given the attacking personnel at our disposal, we should be doing a lot, lot more going forward."
