The Ghanaian striker is currently the Breton side's top scorer with six goals from his 11 Ligue 1 matches this season. That is five strikes more and just five games less than he registered in a 2008/09 campaign to forget.
"It was really difficult for me, but this season I have started so well and found my scoring boots. I hope it continues," said Gyan, who was beset by injuries following his move to the Stade de la Route de Lorient from Italian side Udinese in 2008.
"Sitting on the sidelines was so frustrating for me, watching my colleagues playing when I knew I could do as well, if not better. I felt very sad and disappointed but I had my friends around me to push me and give me words of encouragement. Now I'm better and I'm happy to be back."

As well as playing an integral role in Rennes' solid start to the Ligue 1 season, Gyan has also been instrumental in his nation's qualification for next summer's World Cup finals.
Having already experienced life in football's biggest tournament in Germany three years ago, Gyan has faith the Black Stars can twinkle in South Africa.
"Individually we have a good team and I think we are also united and we are ready to face anyone who we meet. Players like [Michael] Essien, [Sulley] Muntari and John Mensah - these are guys who are world class. We have a good team and we are ready to show the world what we can do for the second time," the 23-year-old told the official FIFA website ahead of his country's final qualifier at home to Mali on Sunday.
"I can't predict where we'll finish but if everything goes well, if we concentrate, I think we are going to have a great World Cup."
