"I think I'll stay a long time to keep improving," he said. "Today, I'm not thinking about leaving at all. I've just joined this club and I have no interest in moving on."
The Turkish Tank
Erding came to international prominence in 2008 when he helped Turkey reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008. His form led to interest from both Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers, but Erding, nicknamed 'The Turkish Tank' by the British tabloids, returned to Sochaux and scored 11 goals in 36 matches last season. That prompted an offer from PSG and Erding's arrival was the first time a Turkish player had signed for the club. "Of course there's a sense of pride at being one of the first Turks to play in the French Championship," explains Erding, "and above all for one of the biggest clubs in France. It's a big honour to play for PSG."
One of the things that most attracted Erding to PSG was the chance to play at the Parc des Princes, a stadium he describes as 'special'. "There are many beautiful stadiums in France," he says, "but the Parc has the best atmosphere. I dreamed about playing in such a great stadium with such great fans. At the moment I'm out injured, but I can't wait to get back on the pitch!"
Top Three Finish
Erding believes such a magnificent stadium deserves Champions League football and he's as determined as his teammates to achieve that objective this season. "In my opinion, we can definitely qualify for the Champions League, when you look at the way we played against Lyon. Our aim is to finish in the top five but we could easily finish in the top three."
As for his own ambitions this season, once Erding has recovered from his shoulder injury, he wants to set himself a new goalscoring record in Ligue 1. With two goals to his name already, the 'Turkish Tank' needs only ten more before he can say 'Mission Accomplished!'
