OM-PSG date to be set on Thursday
©PanoramicThe LFP will announce the new date for last Sunday's postponed Marseille versus Paris Saint-Germain fixture on Thursday October 29. OM had hoped to reschedule the game for Wednesday October 28, a demand ruled out by the LFP after the outbreak of swine flu at the capital club.
The LFP's Expert Medical Commission, headed by Professor Rochongar, came up with the following recommendation: "The experts strongly recommend that those infected are placed in isolation for at least 72 hours, that is to say until Wednesday morning at the earliest. This was accepted by PSG. As a consequence, it is not possible, unless we go against expert opinion, to put the team on a plane on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning.

"We'll only be able to assess the level of contamination once the three day period has elapsed (it is not infeasible that more cases will be discovered on Tuesday or Wednesday).

Injury risk

"From a physiological point of view, forcing players to play a game of this magnitude after not training for three or four days, with some of them recovering from illness, appears impossible and would certainly mean running the risk of injuries."

As a result, the LFP's Competitions Commission has rejected Wednesday October 28 as a possibility. The Bureau of the LFP will meet on the morning of Thursday October 29 - with OM president Jean-Claude Dassier and PSG president Robin Leproux invited -  in order to set the rescheduled date.

Reaction

Paris Saint-Germain coach Antoine Kombouaré said: "I spoke to [Marseille coach] Didier Deschamps by phone. Out of respect for Marseille, and more so because it is Didier, I said to him: 'try to find the best date for you, and we'll try to go along with it'. The best date has to be found so that OM can continue its Champions League campaign in the best possible conditions."

OM sporting director José Anigo said: "The president and everybody at the club hope this game will be played in February and not before. As Didier Deschamps explained on Sunday, December 2 is out of the question because of our crowded fixture list."
