The 20 year-old came in as one of nine alterations to the side, with Rennes' Rod Fanni and Alou Diarra of Bordeaux also starting, while Hugo Lloris of Lyon returned in goal after suspension. While the other changes may have been expected, it was thought in most quarters that Sissoko would once again be on the bench.
"I was surprised but delighted to see my name on the team sheet. It went pretty well, I think I did ok. I was a bit nervous at the start, but after that I got into the game. My team-mates were all great and helped me to do my job. When I was younger, I dreamed of playing in matches like this at the Stade de France. This makes me really proud."
Coach Domenech was pleased to see his team perform so well despite the many changes. "The team played with plenty of desire and determination. We defended from the front, and pressed the opposition, just as we've been doing for several games now. Whoever's on the pitch, the spirit is the same. Everyone wants to go to the Finals in South Africa."
