Ayews start new season with a bang

Trophée des Champions

The Ayew brothers made a sensational start to the season as they starred in Wednesday's Trophée des Champions in Tangiers. After a hat-trick against Lille, André revealed his ambition to become Marseille captain one day.

André, 21, scored two penalties in the incredible 5-4 victory over the 2010-2011 double winners. It was very much a family affair as both spot kicks were earned by his younger brother Jordan, 19, who was on as a substitute.

Ghanaian international André, who collected the man-of-the-match award for his triple salvo, said: "When it came to the penalties, we had a little talk amongst ourselves. Taye Taïwo is no longer here and several of us could have taken over. I was touched that the other players let me step up.

Captaincy dream

"When I see a young player like Mamadou Sakho captaining Paris Saint-Germain it has an effect on me. One day, maybe, it will happen for me at OM. It's a dream I have at the back of my mind. To be captain at the club where you came up through the ranks would be beautiful."

OM recovered from 3-1 down with under 20 minutes to play to beat Lille and André hopes they will show that team spirit all season long. "We changed things around and I'm happy with our teamwork. We showed we are united as a squad and we played with desire and determination. If we keep that going then we can go far this season."

Jordan "needs to continue apprenticeship"

Striker Jordan started three of Marseille's last four Ligue 1 games last season and André had some advice for his younger brother. "Jordan's been getting stronger and stronger the longer pre-season has gone on. I'm happy for him, but the championship hasn't started yet. He needs to continue his apprenticeship. He did win us the two penalties, mind, and that says a lot about his desire."
