Olympique de Marseille: 4 - 5
Didier Deschamps (Marseille coach) : “That was a crazy game. We played better in the first-half only for Landreau to make some great saves. To go 3-1 down was a big blow. And then when Lille thought they had it in the bag we come back....I can understand if they feel that it was a bit cruel. We showed great character to come back. Lille are still a great side full of individual talent going forward, but that was a great advert for French football.
“You will have to ask Lille if this result has an effect on them although certainly Chedjou will now face a suspension (he was sent off). In a little over a month we meet again and the context will be very different then.
“Jérémy Morel showed great temperament and gave us an outlet going forward. He got the goal that brought us back into it (OM's second). Amalfitano played well in the first-half and then struggled a bit after that. Alou (Diarra) had an impact, but given his size, he must improve his physical condition. Lucho was excellent, and for the moment he is still our player. It is not going to change his position but as long as he is here I will continue to use him.”
Rudi Garcia (Lille coach): “Having been 3-1 up, there is no way we should have let them go away with the trophy. It is our fault. The sending-off of Chedjou upset me. The referee could have used a little common sense there - a penalty ok, but there was no need for the red card as well.”
