LFP president Frédéric Thiriez has hailed Wednesday evening’s thrilling Trophée des Champions in Tangiers as a ‘magnificent spectacle’ for the French game.
The match, won 5-4 by Marseille after an extraordinary finish, was watched by a crowd of 34,000 inside the Grand Stade in the Moroccan city, as well as by millions of television viewers in France and in 77 countries across the globe.
“I would like to congratulate both Marseille and Lille for helping portray a magnificent image of French football,” Thiriez said. “The end was cruel on Lille, but the quality of the match made it a great advert for our game ahead of the start of the new Ligue 1 season.”
