Memphis Depay overtook Karim Benzema in Lyon's all-time scorers' chart with his fabulous free-kick against Strasbourg in Round 24 — ligue1.com pays tribute with five of the dazzling Dutchman's best Ligue 1 Uber Eats strikes.

2016/17, Round 29: Lyon 4-0 Toulouse

The bemused smile on Bruno Genesio's face and the applause of Rachid Ghezzal as he warms up among the Lyon substitutes says it all: this was a goal that very few players can score. And the man himself was so far away he didn't even see it.

"In the first half, I'd noticed the goalkeeper was far out of his goal," explained Depay, whose strike was named the Goal of the Season…no surprise there. "I'd kept that at the back of my mind.

"I said to myself, 'It's my opportunity', and I turned and shot. I didn't even see the ball go in, but I heard everyone go crazy."

2017/18, Round 22: Lyon 2-1 PSG

There are spectacular goals because of the skill required to score them. Others are memorable for the moment they are scored. This one had both.

With PSG down to ten men following Dani Alves' red card before the hour mark, Genesio brought Memphis off the bench with 21 minutes left, and, well, he just did what Memphis does…Alphonse Aréola in the PSG goal just watches along with the rest of us.

2017/18, Round 35: Lyon 2-0 Nantes

Léo Dubois might defend this goal a little better these days given he's trained alongside Memphis since his arrival at Lyon in 2018. But in the colours of Nantes, he was simply — and quite brilliantly — outdone by Depay. It's usually his right foot that does most of the damage; for this goal, it was used for deftness before a crisply struck half-volley with his supposedly weaker left.

2017/18, Round 38: Lyon 3-2 Nice

Ronaldinho did it first, but Depay brilliantly executed this set-piece straight out of the Brazilian's handbook. His reputation as a lethal striker of a dead ball had as much to do with this goal as anything — the Nice wall jumped, and Memphis simply sent a low shot under them to bamboozle Walter Benitez in goal. There was also a collector's item chip in the game which saw Depay score all three home goals.

2020/21, Round 24: Lyon 3-0 Strasbourg

This one had to be in as it was the strike that took him beyond Benzema. Depay had already netted the opener on the counter-attack, and then sent a free-kick from a similar position arrowing goalwards only for Strasbourg 'keeper Eiji Kawashima to parry it onto a post. There was no respite for the Japan international at the second time of asking, however, as Memphis bent home his fifth direct free-kick in the French top flight since his arrival from Manchester United in January 2017.
