At just 16 years old, midfield metronome Eduardo Camavinga not only looks at home in Ligue 1 Conforama, he is already outplaying some of the best in the league.

The youngest player ever to appear for Stade Rennais FC in the French top flight, the Bretons' academy product is now one of the first names on Julien Stéphan's team sheet.

Player of the Month

Such is his talent, the teenager was named Ligue 1 Conforama Player of the Month for August after, most notably, a Man of the Match performance in Rennes' 2-1 win over champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Former Arsenal FC manager Arsène Wenger vividly recalls the first time he saw Camavinga play.

"It was Strasbourg's final home game last season, against Rennes," he told the Ligue 1 Show on beIN SPORTS. "We were taken aback by this very young player. After the game we were all saying the same thing: 'Where's he appeared from? Sign him up!' - he dominated that match, he was head and shoulders above the rest, I was really impressed!"

'Eyes on the back of his head'

Camavinga's composure and strength compare to those of a player twice his age. His awareness and passing ability would be an asset to any team.

"He plays like he has eyes in the back of his head, takes decisions in a fraction of a second and makes things look easy," Wenger continued. "He's proof that being physically imposing is not vital, it's about agility, speed of movement and decision making! He's brilliant to watch. A real treat!"

For a player that turns 17 next month, Camavinga's attitude is just as outstanding as his talent.

'Very intelligent'

"He's a very intelligent young lad, who strives for improvement," beamed his coach, Stéphan. "His self-analysis is really impressive."

Also named Man of the Match in the 1-1 draw with Olympique de Marseille last month, Camavinga is already being recognised as one of Europe's brightest young talents.

"It's going to be interesting to see if he continues to play with the same hunger he shows now, to see how his development progresses," said Wenger. "Let's hope he isn't corrupted over the course of his development, don't forget how young he is! Rennes have an important role to play in the near future."

In the right hands

Having worked together in the reserve team, Stephan's mentoring will be a key factor in Camavinga's progression.

"I'm going have to be careful with him, that's obvious," said the coach. "He's still so young! I'll have to talk to him regularly, like I do with every player, if we are to allow him to grow in the best possible conditions."

Yet to finish school but already dominant in midfield, Camavinga has already caught the eye of some of Europe's biggest clubs. Things are only just beginning for this supremely talented teenager.
