Benjamin Bourigeaud and Raphinha scored a pair of injury-time goals as Stade Rennais FC fought back from 2-1 down to snatch a stunning 3-2 win against Breton rivals FC Nantes at Roazhon Park.

THE MATCH

Rennes squeezed past Angers SCO 5-4 after extra-time in the Coupe de France on Tuesday and could perhaps be forgiven for their slow start at home to Brittany rivals Nantes three days on from that 120-minute slog. Ludovic Blas found space on the edge of the Rennes box early on and was only an Édouard Mendy parry away from making it 1-0 (9'). Julien Stéphan's men settled into their groove midway through the half, though. M'Baye Niang was inches away from his ninth, and no doubt best, goal of the season when his acrobatic volley hit the wrong side of Alban Lafont's side-netting (22') and Adrien Hunou then came close to breaking the deadlock when he latched onto Raphinha's through-ball, but his powerful effort hit the woodwork (35'). Benoît Millot's whistle duly went for half-time with the deadlock firmly intact.

That changed just three minutes into the second half, though. Eduardo Camavinga attempted to deal with a Nantes corner but his clearance ricocheted off the back of captain Damien Da Silva and beyond Mendy in the home goal (48'). Camavinga looked to make amends before the hour was out we he slipped James Léa Siliki through, but the midfielder's cross-turned-shot was comfortably collected by Lafont (55'). Lafont then pulled off a wonderful save to deny Niang, whose dipping shot looked destined to nestle into the top of his goal (58'). There was nothing the Fiorentina-owned shot-stopper could do about Rennes' equaliser soon after, though. Rene Krhin brought Niang down in the box and Raphinha stepped up to stroke home the resulting penalty for his fourth league goal of the season (71'). Camavinga then scored an own goal when trying to keep Imran Louza's effort out (80') but Bourigeaud (90'+5) and Raphinha (90'+8) spared home blushes in the dying minutes and it ended 3-2.

THE PLAYER: Eduardo Camavinga

Camavinga is rather unique among teenaged talents in world football in that he anchors the midfield for Rennes, unlike many of his cohorts who play in the final third with layers of players behind him to compensate for any errors. He might be remembered for the wrong reasons today, but the fact it was he who was there when Nantes looked at their deadliest also spoke volumes, and another fine performance against LOSC on Tuesday remains a safe best

THE STAT: 7

Rennes remain undefeated in seven home games against Nantes in all competitions. The last time Les Rouge et Noir suffered a loss on home turf to their local rivals was way back in September 2013, when Filip Djordjevic, Serge Gakpé and Lucas Deaux scored in a 3-1 win for Les Canaris.
