Paris Saint-Germain's record scorer Edinson Cavani scored his 200th goal for the club as the leaders saw off Bordeaux 4-3.
THE MATCH
PSG bounced back from their midweek Champions League defeat at Borussia Dortmund as they saw off a Bordeaux side that came to the French capital unbeaten in five league games. Sunday night thrillers have been a feature of Parc des Princes fixtures in 2020 and this was another for the collection.
After a 4-4 draw at Amiens the previous weekend, PSG were again involved in a high-scoring encounter and again they made life hard for themselves as they conceded the opening goal on 18 minutes as South Korean attacker Hwang Ui-Jo headed in a Nicolas De Préville corner.
Seven minutes later Cavani managed his landmark 200th goal as he headed home a pinpoint cross from Angel Di Maria. El Matador hit the post (29') with a "Madjer" attempt and then Benoît Costil did well to deny Kylian Mbappé (30') before PSG did get in front as Marquinhos bundled a Di Maria free-kick into the net.
Pablo (45+4') equalised in remarkable style as the Brazilian defender blocked goalkeeper Sergio Rico's clearance and the ball lodged in the back of the net. Rico then made a good save from a Pablo header (57') before Marquinhos (63') put PSG back in front as he was quickest to react once Costil had saved well from Cavani's header.
PSG looked to be easing to their 12th win in 14 as Cavani looked like he was going to shoot before setting up Mbappé for his 15th league goal of the season. There was still time for much drama as sub Ruben Pardo, the January signing, pulled a goal back (83') with a precise shot. Mauro Icardi had a goal disallowed for an Mbappé offside (89') before Neymar collected PSG's first rec card of the season in added time, picking up a second yellow for a foul on Yacine Adli, the former PSG youngster.
THE PLAYER: Marquinhos
The Brazilian wore the armband after Thiago Silva went off injured and came up with a captain's display as he scored two crucial goals. Marquinhos, however, will be less happy at being part of a club that has now conceded nine goals in three games in all competitions.
THE STAT: 200
Cavani has scored 200 PSG goals in 298 appearances for the capital club. The Uruguayan has scored 138 goals in Ligue 1, 30 in the UEFA Champions League and 32 in the domestic Cup competitions.
In front of a packed Roazhon Park Rennes beat Nîmes 2-1 to get back on the Ligue 1 Conforama podium with Senegalese striker M'Baye Niang striking the winner in the 89th minute as the home team took advantage of Nîmes being reduced to ten men when Anthony Briançon was sent off. Rennes had been shocked at the start of the game as Nolan Roux gave Nîmes the lead after only 34 seconds.
Rennes reacted as Niang equalised in the seventh minute and then after Briançon had been sent off for a foul on Eduardo Camavinga they looked the favourites to win. It took a long time for it to happen and Niang managed to make the difference at the end of the game, completing a good game for him as he scored his first league goals in 2020.
