Olympique Lyonnais continued their revival as Tino Kadewere’s late goal handed Rudi Garcia’s side a 1-0 victory against Angers SCO at the Stade Raymond Kopa on Sunday.

Angers SCO 0-1 Olympique Lyonnais

Kadewere grabbed his fourth Ligue 1 Uber Eats goal since moving to OL from Le Havre to decide this game in the away side’s favour. The goal came with just 12 minutes remaining, as substitute Moussa Dembélé spotted a run into the box from Léo Dubois who lifted the ball back for Kadewere to control and fire home.

The Zimbabwean striker had headed a glorious first-half chance wide for Lyon from Memphis Depay’s cross, but Garcia’s men were fortunate to escape with all three points against a hard-working Angers team. Indeed the hosts could have snatched a point in stoppage time, but substitute Sinaly Diomandé was in the right place at the right time as he popped up on the goal line to block a Souleyman Doumbia shot.

Lyon may not have convinced but this was their fourth win in five games and they are now unbeaten in eight outings. That form has lifted them up onto the podium, four points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. After a 5-1 win in Nîmes last time out, Angers continued their inconsistent form.

THE PLAYER: Tino Kadewere

The Zimbabwean revealed he had dreamt of scoring a brace against AS Saint-Etienne in the derby just before the international break, before proceeding to do just that. It is turning into a dream introduction to life in the top flight for the former Le Havre striker. Playing wide in a front three with Depay through the centre and Rayan Cherki on the other side, Kadewere popped up in the middle to score the late winning goal, his fourth in Lyon’s last five outings.

Lyon are unbeaten in eight games now, with four wins and four draws in that time lifting them up onto the podium.
