Leaders Paris Saint-Germain drew for the first time this season, held 2-2 at home by Bordeaux. Dario Benedetto paid tribute to Diego Maradona as he scored in a 3-1 home win for Olympique de Marseille against Nantes.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 2-2 BORDEAUX
THE MATCH
Just as at Monaco in the previous round of games, PSG lost their way in the second half and dropped points after performing brightly in the first half. This game between two crunch Champions League matches for PSG, who beat Leipzig in midweek and go to Manchester United next Wednesday.
Bordeaux, building on their 1-0 win at Rennes last time out, showed further signs of revival and they took the lead on 10 minutes as Timothée Pembele's first start turned into a nightmare as the 18-year-old defender scored an own goal, heading past Sergio Rico.
Benoît Costil had a massive first half in the Bordeaux goal and saved from Mitchel Bakker (14'), though the French international goalkeeper could do nothing to stop Neymar equalising from the penalty spot (27') after the Brazilian had been fouled by Otavio.
A minute later (28') Moise Kean scored the rebound after Costil had saved Neymar's powerful shot. PSG should have been further in front before the break as Kylian Mbappé fired over (34') and then hit the post (35'). The French international then had a goal disallowed for offside (46') before Costil saved with his right hand (55') on what was a frustrating evening for the top scorer in the division.
Hatem Ben Arfa, the scorer of the winner at Rennes, shone on his return to another former club, but it was ex-PSG youngster Yacine Adli who equalised with his first touch (60'). PSG were being cut in two and Rémi Oudin let Ben Arfa's cross go so that Adli could finish.
Bordeaux could have won as Rico denied Nicolas De Préville, (86') who'd come on with Adli, after the Les Girondins attacker had stolen the ball off Presnel Kimpembe and exchanged passes with Ben Arfa. There was still time for Mbappé (88') to miss a further chance and should Lille win at Saint-Etienne on Sunday evening then they'll go level with PSG on 25 points at the top of the table.
THE PLAYER: Neymar
Neymar became the fastest Paris player to 50 goals in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, bringing up his half-century in his 58th league game for the club. Zlatan Ibrahimovic reached 50 goals for the capital club in 59 matches. The Brazilian felt that PSG played timidly and that the champions need to improve if they're to avoid difficulties in the league and the Champions League.
THE STAT: 10
PSG are unbeaten in their last 10 Ligue 1 Uber Eats home games against Bordeaux, winning six and drawing four.
MARSEILLE 3-1 NANTES
Benedetto (60') scored the third of Marseille's goals, adding to strikes from Dimitri Payet (35') and Florian Thuavin (2'), two other players to have struggled this season in the UEFA Champions League as OM have lost their first four group matches. The league is a different story for last season's second-placed club and this victory made it three wins in a row for André Villas-Boas' side, lifting them to third place in the table with games in hand on the clubs above them.
Thauvin opened the scoring quickly with an acrobatic lob over Alban Lafont, then Payet side-footed home a Michaël Cuisance cut-back, before Benedetto netted from the penalty spot after a Jean-Charles Castelletto handball. He celebrated by raising 10 fingers in tribute to the late Maradona and pointed to a banner of his Argentinian compatriot in the stands. Ludovic Blas (73') pulled a goal back with his fourth of the season to ensure OM didn't keep their third consecutive clean sheet.
