Burak Yilmaz scored, but Jonathan David had a penalty saved as LOSC Lille threw away a lead yet again to draw 1-1 at home to Nantes on Saturday.
Lille came into the game boasting a four-game unbeaten run, extending that streak with their midweek UEFA Champions League victory over RB Salzburg. But Jocelyn Gourvennec's side had only triumphed in European competition with none of their previous five Ligue 1 Uber Eats games ending in wins, their worst run since early 2018.
They did get a great start. Jonathan Bamba — ineffectual in midweek due to the after-effects of an ankle injury — was much sharper here and raced forward before cutting the ball back for Yilmaz, who drilled home only his third goal in 13 top-flight encounters this season (9').
But the hosts have made a nasty habit of not holding on to leads — they had failed to win some six times this season after scoring first — and after Moses Simon had found a way past Benjamin André and Jose Fonte to force Ivo Grbic into a save (17'), Lille succumbed again.
Andrei Girotto's ball forward was nicked away from Tiago Djalo by Ludovic Blas, who then moved forward as the Lille defender lost his footing and fired low past Grbic before Fonte could close him down (24') to pick up his seventh league goal of a prolific season.
With Lille rocking, Nantes — not looking short on confidence despite having lost three of their previous four away games — went for the kill, and came within a whisker of a second when Fabio's shot ricocheted off a post (30').
Randal Kolo Muani fired over (36') before Pedro Chirivella found himself in a worryingly large amount of space in the Lille penalty area. Perhaps the Spanish midfielder was surprised at the slack marking too as he fired over when he should at least have tested Grbic (56').
Reinildo did test Lafont (65'), and the Nantes goalkeeper earned his side a point when he pushed out David's penalty (80') after Fabio had pulled back Zeki Celik inside the box just as the Turkey international was about to score. The ex-Manchester United full-back earned himself a red card (77'), but Nantes' ten men hung on.

The France U21 international is closing in on 200 Ligue 1 Uber Eats appearances and has now saved six of the last 14 penalties he has faced in the French top flight. And he only turns 23 in January…
THE STAT: 25
