Olympique de Marseille came close to securing all three points, but a last-minute equalizer enabled RC Strasbourg to depart with a 1-1 draw on Friday night at the Stade Vélodrome.

Samuel Gigot scored the opening goal for Marseille, despite being initially flagged offside. Following a video assistant referee review, OM secured the goal, claiming a 1-0 lead in the third minute.

Although Marseille had the opening goal and held the lead for most of the match, it didn't stop Strasbourg from finding the game-tying goal. Les Bleu et Blanc had five total shots in the first half, but the amount quickly increased in the second half. Strasbourg got off 13 total shots in the final 45 minutes and eventually, one found the back of the net, from an unlikely source.

Missing key attackers Emanuel Emegha and Lebo Mothiba, manager Patrick Vieira put forward Jeremy Sebas into the contest in the 79th minute. The substitution paid off for the French tactician, as the 18-year-old scored the game-tying goal in stoppage time.

Marseille could have been closer to Stade Brestois in fourth place if they had held on for all three points. The draw now creates an opportunity for Lille OSC, RC Lens, and Stade de Reims to overtake OM for fifth place in the competitive race for a place in Europe next season.

Strasbourg remains in contention for European competitions as well, currently trailing Marseille by just four points. If Vieira and his squad continue to secure favorable results on the road, such as this draw against OM, and perform well at home, they will look to stay in the race as well.
