Olympique de Marseille have won their second straight contest in all competitions under new manager Jean-Louis Gasset after a 4-1 win over Montpellier HSC on Sunday night at the Stade Vélodrome.

Montpellier got off to an excellent start courtesy of a goal from Mousa Al-Taamari in the fifth minute, but it was all downhill after that for La Paillade. OM's attack woke up after this early scare, scoring three unanswered goals, with the first coming from Iliman Ndiaye, who leveled the score in the 30th minute.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would hand Marseille a 2-1 lead right before halftime to head into the dressing room on a positive note. The 34-year-old would score his brace and add an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute.

Aubameyang came close to completing a hat-trick when the ball deflected off Falaye Sacko for an own goal, but he could not reach it in time to claim credit.

Marseille's three points maintain their pursuit of a European competition berth for the next season, as they currently trail LOSC Lille, who are in fifth place, by five points.

Les Phocéens aim to maintain their successful streak under Gasset as they head to the Stade Gabriel-Montpied next weekend to face Clermont Foot. Following that match, their focus will shift to the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 against Villarreal.

Montpellier now sit just above the relegation zone, level on 22 points with FC Lorient, who currently occupy the relegation playoff position. Michel Der Zakarian and his team will be looking to secure a rebound victory as they play host to RC Strasbourg next weekend.
