On Saturday night at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, RC Lens secured a significant 1-0 home victory against second-place Stade Brestois despite being without Franck Haise due to his suspension.

The first half was tightly contested, with neither side displaying much in the way of offensive dominance. Lens recorded five shots while Brest only had two, but Les Sang et Or opened the scoring thanks to a goal from Ruben Aguilar in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, Lens didn't pose much of an attacking threat, managing just one shot in total. They relied on their defense and goalkeeping to guarantee they claimed all three points.

Brest's attack improved in the final 45 minutes, generating seven total shots, but they couldn't find the equalizing goal. Brice Samba thwarted Eric Roy and his team's attempts to score any goals, making three saves to maintain a clean sheet.

Lens' victory has propelled them into the top four, positioning them within reach of securing an automatic qualifying spot for the UEFA Champions League next season. The team will eye a third straight win next Saturday against a struggling OGC Nice.

While it's not an ideal result for Les Pirates, they'll stay in second place, regardless of whether AS Monaco or LOSC Lille win their matches on Sunday. If either or both of those teams secure a victory, it'll add pressure on Brest to bounce back with a win next weekend in a massive match against Lille.
