Olympique de Marseille continue their impressive run under new manager Jean-Louis Gasset, winning their fifth straight game across all competitions after a 1-0 victory over FC Nantes on Sunday night at Stade Vélodrome.

In the first 45 minutes, OM had seven total shots, and one found the back of the net. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in the 17th minute to give Marseille the early lead. The veteran striker's goal against Nantes also marked his fifth straight game with a goal.

Nantes had some offensive moments, taking four shots in total, but they couldn't score. In the second half, Les Canaris stepped up with six total shots, but unfortunately, they still couldn't find the back of the net.

Marseille added an insurance goal to create breathing room after Aubameyang recorded his brace in the 79th minute, marking the third time in his last five games that the 34-year-old has scored two goals in a match.

Gasset and his team are currently three points behind fourth-place LOSC Lille, but they'll need to temporarily divert their attention from Ligue 1.

Les Phocéens will travel midweek to the Estadio de la Cerámica for the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie against Villarreal, where the French side holds a commanding 4-0 aggregate lead.

Nantes lost its second straight game and currently occupies the relegation playoff position. Jocelyn Gourvennec and his team are two points above FC Metz, who have won two consecutive games. Nantes will aim to bounce back next weekend against RC Strasbourg, with both teams vying for a win to distance themselves from the direct relegation zone.
