Benjamin Bourigeaud and Adrien Hunou scored the goals as Coupe de France winners Rennes won 2-0 at Coupe de la Ligue winners Strasbourg.

RC Strasbourg Alsace 0-2 Stade Rennais FC

THE MATCH

Playing without the injured Benjamin André and Hatem Ben Arfa, Rennes scored their first Ligue 1 Conforama win in 10 matches. Strasbourg, like Rennes, have seen their league form affected by Coupe heroics and Thierry Laurey's side have won only one of their last 15 league games.

Damien Da Silva (12') got Rennes off the hook with a vital block of Anthony Gonçalves' shot with Tomas Koubek beaten. Da Silva's heroics looked ven more important when Bourigeaud opened the scoring (24') with a magnificent goal. The free-kick maestro curled a beauty from 20 metres past the despairing Matz Sels.

Strasbourg riposted and hit the post (32') through Adrien Thomasson, the midfielder connecting with a Ludovic Ajorque cross. The hosts had had more of the play in the opening period and huffed and puffed in the second half without managing to get back on terms.

Hunou replaced Eduardo Camavinga, the gifted 16-year-old, for the final 10 minutes and the substitute made the points safe (90') on the counter. James Léa-Siliki found Hunou and the attacker carried it up the field, befuddled Lamine Koné and finished with a low shot.

THE PLAYER: Benjamin Bourigeaud

Bourigeaud scored a stupendous free-kick against Arsenal in the Europa League earlier this season and the 25-year-old's effort here was none too shabby either. Now on six league goals for the season, the former Lens midfielder will be integral to Rennes' plans for another assault on Europe next season.

THE STAT: 4

Rennes have won on four of their last six trips to Strasbourg.
