Yaya Sanogo scored the only goal as Toulouse FC beat 10-man EA Guingamp 1-0 at Le Stadium on Sunday to claim a long overdue home victory.
Toulouse FC 1 - 0 EA Guingamp
THE MATCH
This match was ultimately decided by Sanogo's solitary goal in the 20th minute. The former Arsenal forward was picked out by Max-Alain Gradel's ball in from the left and exchanged passes with Manu García before finishing past Marc-Aurèle Caillard in goal for his third of the season.
Guingamp's hopes of getting back into the game were then dealt a serious blow when they were reduced to 10 men with a minute of the first half still to play. Marcus Coco was shown a straight red card following a VAR review for a dangerous high tackle on Gradel (44').
Jocelyn Gourvennec's team had travelled here fresh from a run of three games unbeaten and in which they had not even conceded a goal. However, they rarely looked like rescuing this match in the second half.
Spanish midfielder García and Sanogo had chances to increase Toulouse's lead in the second half, while Issiaga Sylla had a goal disallowed for offside late on, but Alain Casanova's men held on for their first home Ligue 1 Conforama victory since August 25. They are now 10 points clear of the bottom three, while Guingamp remain rooted to the foot of the table.
THE PLAYER: Yaya Sanogo
Toulouse have been overly reliant on their captain Gradel this season, so Casanova will be delighted that Sanogo stepped up to get the winner here. All three of his league strikes this season have come in 2019.
THE STAT: 12
This was TFC's first win in 12 home league matches since they beat Nîmes Olympique 1-0 on August 25, more than six months ago.
