Olympique de Marseille's Dimitri Payet made Ligue 1 Conforama history on Friday as he scored the French top-flight's first-ever goal following the use of VAR.
After successful trials last season, including in the Coupe de la Ligue final, and the FIFA World Cup this summer, VAR is being used in Ligue 1 Conforama for the first time this season.
When Marseille claimed the ball had touched Toulouse defender Kelvin Amian's hand just before half-time of Friday's top-flight encounter, match referee Ruddy Buquet conferred with VAR colleague Clément Turpin before viewing the images himself pitchside and then pointing to the spot.
"I went into Ligue 1 history," said Payet, who netted the penalty for the opening goal in Marseille's 4-0 win at the Stade Orange Vélodrome.
"That's the positive thing about VAR, the referee has the time to assist the true worth of the penalty. It's good, because it went for us. You saw at the World Cup that it can change things."
