Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet regretted his side - overhauled after a wave of injuries - couldn't get a crucial away goal after they lost 1-0 away to RB Leipzig in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie.

UEFA Europa League quarter-finals, first leg

RB Leipzig 1 - 0 Olympique de Marseille

Ralf Hasenhüttl (RB Leipzig coach): "It's a good result for us, better than the one against Saint Petersburg in the previous round [a 2-1 win]. For us it was important to keep a clean sheet, and we managed it for the first time in Europe. We saw the quality of this Marseille side; in defence, Luiz Gustavo didn't give us an inch. What's great for us is that now Marseille are obliged to score at home, and that could open up some space for us. I'm convinced we can score away from home. I'm satisfied but we're only half-way through the job. And we know it will be really intense in Marseille [in the return leg on Thursday, April 12]."

Dimitri Payet (Olympique de Marseille midfielder): "It was tough for us because we chose a game plan that was an advantage to them. We decided to let them have the ball so we could hit on the counter. But, given the match as a whole, I think we deserved better. We really wanted to score an away goal. We know how important that is, but we couldn't manage it."
