PSG claimed the title of the most potent Ligue 1 Conforama attack in 2019, bagging no fewer than 98 goals. Meanwhile, Stade de Reims had the tightest defence with just 34 goals conceded. Key stats...

While Paris Saint-Germain once again racked up the most impressive scoring stats in 2019, they were pipped to the title of the nation's bet defensive unit by an impressive Stade de Reims side. Very tightly knit, with an effective goalkeeper (Mendy then Rajkovic), David Guion's Reims were incredibly solid and conceded fewer goals than any other top-flight outfit in 2019.

But, in detail, who shone the most at home and away? All the answers...

PSG near centurion status

With their attacking power still impressive, Paris Saint-Germain unsurprisingly finished top of the attacking rankings in 2019. With Argentine goleador Mauro Icardi joining an already star-studded front line, the capital club have scored 98 goals over the calendar year in Ligue 1 Conforama. Kylian Mbappé's 31 goals, or 31.6 per cent of the total, made a major contribution to this impressive figure.

With an average of 2.51 goals per game, PSG are well ahead of second-placed Olympique Lyonnais. Les Gones found the net 69 times in 2019, six lengths clear of LOSC (63), who complete the top three. Both clubs owe their position to a strong first six months of the year (40 goals for OL, 39 for LOSC). Olympique de Marseille (59 goals) and Montpellier Hérault SC (54) round out the top five.

PSG dominate, LOSC and Monaco make their mark at home

In the attacking categories, PSG reign supreme. The team coached by Thomas Tuchel were the top attacking side both at home and away in Ligue 1 Conforama in 2019. At the Parc des Princes, Parisian fans are pretty much assured of a spectacle, PSG players scoring more than three goals per game on average over the calendar year (3.11).

With 59 home goals, they sit 18 goals ahead of LOSC, who had a great year at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy (41 goals): Les Dogues have scored 65% of their goals at home in 2019, while AS Monaco and Montpellier Hérault SC share third place with 36 home goals. The Monegasques can thank the Wissam Ben Yedder - Islam Slimani strike duo for this ranking; the two new recruits have helped Monaco to score 24 times (two-thirds of their 2019 total) at the Stade Louis II since August, making them the co-top scorers at home in the first half of the current season, on a par with PSG. Olympique Lyonnais and OGC Nice follow with 33.

OL and OM fire on the road

Behind PSG and their 39 away goals, there are two Olympiques. Olympique Lyonnais were more prolific away from home in 2019, scoring 36 of their 69 goals on the road. While the Parisians overwhelmed the competition in our first two rankings, OL sit just three lengths behind the capital club on away form, a testament to their strong showings. They are ahead of Olympique de Marseille, who have scored 28 goals away from home. The next two clubs to make an appearance in the standings are AS Saint-Etienne and Stade Rennais FC. Les Verts finished fourth with 27 away goals, while Les Rouge et Noir took the final spot in the top five with 23 goals scored away from Roazhon Park.

Reims rock-solid

Despite the departures of Edouard Mendy and Bjorn Engels this summer - perfectly replaced by Predrag Rajkovic and Axel Disasi - Stade de Reims have retained all their defensive discipline. Better yet, they have been in even better form since August, conceding only ten goals conceded in the first half of the 2019-20 season - the best such performance this season, alongside PSG. The club from the Champagne region even had the temerity to beat PSG in Paris in late September (0-2), becoming the first team to leave the Parc des Princes with a clean sheet since Stade Rennais FC did so on 12 May 2018. Stade de Reims thus ended the Parisians' Ligue 1 Conforama record-setting run of 44 games in a row with at least one goal scored.

With only 34 goals conceded over the calendar year, Reims beat Paris Saint-Germain and LOSC, both of whom let 35 goals through, while FC Nantes finished the year in fourth place (41). Next came Olympique Lyonnais, Stade Rennais FC and Girondins de Bordeaux (44).

Stade Pierre-Mauroy: Lille's fortress

Formidable in attack on their home turf, LOSC were also particularly hard to break down in front of their own fans: in 2019, Christophe Galtier's men conceded just eight goals at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy for an average of 0.42 goals per game. No other Ligue 1 Conforama side could match this feat. Special mention goes to the first half of the year, when LOSC concede just three goals in 9 home games. PSG follow the northern team with 10 goals conceded at the Parc des Princes in 2019, while the OGC Nice of talented Argentine 'keeper Walter Benitez complete the podium with 15 goals conceded. Stade de Reims and Girondins de Bordeaux are tied for fourth place with 16 goals shipped on their respective pitches.

Reims takes their show on the road

With a well-honed playing style for away matches, Stade de Reims have made a habit of bringing down the big boys in recent months. OM, PSG and Stade Rennais FC have all suffered at home against the Champagne club, notably struggling to break down a steely back line. In 2019, David Guion's players conceded only 18 goals away from home, an average of one goal per trip. Only FC Nantes did as well (also just one goal conceded per game), but Les Canaris have conceded 19 goals over the calendar year in 19 games, which explains their second place on the ranking. Also with a compact block when on the road, RC Strasbourg Alsace take third place with 23 goals conceded, ahead of PSG (25) and OL (26).
