Toulouse beat Guingamp 2-1 but with Caen getting a point against PSG they were condemned to having to fight for their Ligue 1 Conforama future in a two-legged play-off.

THE MATCH

Toulouse needed to win and hope Caen lost to PSG in order to avoid the play-offs, while at kick-off there was still a chance TFC could be caught by Troyes and go down as 19th-placed finishers. Toulouse had lost their previous three games and were on an awful run of one win in 13 prior to a success that reminded them how to win ahead of facing either Ajaccio or Le Havre in the play-offs.

Toulouse didn't appear daunted by what was at stake and had all the first-half chances. Max-Alain Gradel (7') and Jimmy Durmaz (22') both had decent attempts and were the liveliest of the home players. Toulouse made the breakthrough (59') as Gradel collected a Giannelli Imbula pass and angled a shot into the net for his eighth league goal of the season. Four minutes later TFC doubled their advantage as Yaya Sanogo played a one-two with Durmaz and managed to squeeze the ball past Kalle Johnsson.

Clément Grenier (66') pulled one back for Guingamp with a 25-metre free-kick that deflected off the wall and beat Alban Lafont but Antoine Kombouaré was unable to record a ninth career win as a Ligue 1 Conforama coach over Toulouse.

THE PLAYER: Max-Alain Gradel

Gradel will be integral to TFC's hopes of emerging from the play-offs with their Ligue 1 Conforama status intact. Post-match, the Ivorian said: "It's positive but difficult too as we did our bit and Paris didn't manage to win. We can only be upset with ourselves for being in this position. We'll come through the play-offs if we play as we did tonight."

THE STAT: 6

Guingamp have conceded two goals or more in each of their last six away Ligue 1 Conforama games.
