Paris Saint-Germain have officialised the arrival of new sporting director Antero Henrique, who will be tasked with revitalising the club's sporting policies with an emphasis on performance and detection and training of young talent.
The post of sporting director has been more or less empty at Paris Saint-Germain since the departure of Leonardo Araújo in 2013, but now the capital club boast a heavyweight director to revitalise their sporting development programme.
"I am extremely happy and honoured by the confidence Nasser Al-Khelaifi has shown in me," he said after putting pen to paper. "Paris Saint-Germain has entrusted me with important sporting responsibilities and I intend to work hard to meet those expectations. I cannot wait to put my experience to good use for the club - a club that, in just a few years, has become one of the best in Europe. My ambition, my motivation, is to work every day to create a winning dynamic able to keep Paris Saint-Germain at the highest level in the long term.
Al-Khelaifi: 'A benchmark in his field'
Henrique, 49, has spent his entire career thus far with FC Porto, working his way up to the position of vice-president while amassing a network of scouts and contacts that helped him to get the Portuguese giants punching above their weight.
"It is with great satisfaction that I welcome Antero Henrique to our club," declared Paris Saint-Germain Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi. "Antero will bring his great knowledge and experience of football with him. We are confident in his capacity to help Paris Saint-Germain achieve the ambitious objectives that we set on and off the pitch. Our new sporting director is a benchmark in his field in Europe. He has the personality and the ability to further develop the club as one of the most respected and high-performing sports institutions in the world."
