With Angel Di Maria (PSG) on track to become the first man in history to win a second Ligue 1 Conforama Top Assists award, check out the history and the records of assist provision in France's top flight.

The official assists table was launched in Ligue 1 Conforama during the 2007-08 season. A total of twelve trophies have been awarded after final day of the season to the player who cooked up the greatest number of assists.

Ligue 1 Conforama records

Since 2008, six clubs have boasted Ligue 1 Conforama's top assists provider - with the addition of Montpellier HSC, where Morgan Sanson played in the first half of the 2016-17 season.

Olympique de Marseille alone have four titles (Lucho Gonzalez, Mathieu Valbuena, Dimitri Payet and Morgan Sanson), while LOSC (Michel Bastos and Eden Hazard) and Paris Saint-Germain (Di Maria and Neymar) have two each. Finally, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (Martin) and Stade Rennais FC (Leroy) are the other two clubs on the list, joined in May 2019 by Nîmes Olympique.

The record for the most assists in a single season was set by Angel Di Maria (PSG), with 18 goals set up for his teammates in 2015-16 - season that saw the Argentine also set a record for the highest number of assists in open play (16).

The Top Assists title has three times played out on the number of assists from open play - the first tie-breaking criterion. The first time was back in 2008, when Jérôme Leroy beat Samir Nasri (OM), then five and ten years later, Dimitri Payet narrowly missed out on a second title against Mathieu Valbuena (2013) and Neymar (2018).

Di Maria, Slimani hit trifectas

Since the 2007-08 season, only one player has managed to cook up four assists in a single Ligue 1 Conforama match: Memphis Depay (OL), on 8 April 2018 at FC Metz.

In contrast, numerous assist hat-tricks have occurred over the period. With PSG, Argentines Javier Pastore and Angel Di Maria achieved it twice, on 28 April 2015 (PSG-FC Metz, 3-1) and 15 April 2018 (PSG-AS Monaco, 7-1) for the former, while ADM signed their second in the October Classique.

Almamy Touré (ASM), Ryad Boudebouz (MHSC), Thibault Giresse (EAG), Jimmy Briand (EAG), Blaise Matuidi (PSG), Romain Hamouma (ASSE), Étienne Didot (TFC), Olivier Giroud (MHSC), Marvin Martin (FCSM), Fabrice Abriel (OM), Paulo Machado (TFC), Lucho Gonzalez (OM) and Andre-Pierre Gignac (TFC) are also among the authors of a hat-trick of league hat-tricks. Islam Slimani (AS Monaco) also bagged three assists in a single match - in late September against Stade Brestois.
