The Mediapro group announced on Tuesday the creation of its channel Téléefoot, entirely dedicated to football, which will broadcast Ligue 1 Conforama as of August 2020.

The Mediapro group, the new broadcaster of Ligue 1 Conforama and Domino's Ligue 2 as of the 2020-21 season, has entered into a partnership with the TF1 group to create its channel in France, which will be called Téléfoot, after the famous Sunday programme.

The plan

This partnership, unveiled on Tuesday in a joint press release, comprises three components (a brand licence, an editorial and production partnership and a talent partnership) and is "the concrete expression of Mediapro's innovative project for a channel entirely dedicated to football", according to the release.

In addition to the non-exclusive use of the Téléfoot brand, the agreement provides for "an editorial partnership for content production". TF1 will provide the new channel with several magazine shows, including a weekly magazine devoted to Ligue 1 Conforama news, on Sundays from 12 to 1 pm; Téléfoot vintage, which will take viewers back to some of the great moments in French footballing history; and La quotidienne - Téléfoot, a digital version of the magazine.

Heavy hitters

Finally, the TF1 commentary duo of Grégoire Margotton and Bixente Lizarazu, who notably worked during France's victorious 2018 World Cup campaign, will be on Mediapro's channel for around twenty Ligue 1 Conforama matches broadcast on Sunday evening at 9pm, including the 10 highest-profile matches of the season.

In their joint press release, the two groups specified that "this agreement demonstrates Mediapro's ambition for the French championship and confirms the TF1 group's expertise in the coverage of major sports competitions and its historical attachment to French football".
