After falling behind away to Amiens SC on 25 September 2019, the Girondins de Bordeaux managed to execute a superb turnaround - thanks to two superb goals from young midfielder Yacine Adli (1-3). The win was enough to continue the club's positive run of form, stretching their unbeaten run to six Ligue 1 Conforama matches (three wins and three draws).

Milestone

Yacine Adli, who arrived in Bordeaux in January 2019 from his hometown club Paris Saint-Germain, had claimed an assist against Brest in the previous round, sending in a corner for Pablo to head home (2-2). Then, against Amiens, the native of Vitry-sur-Seine scored his first two league goals, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to score a brace in the top flight.

"He's a player who still has a lot of room for improvement, but he's different from the others. He has a good command of space and timing. He's very good at putting the ball between the lines and giving us the upper hand," waxed coach Paulo Sousa at the end of the match. "He still needs to improve physically, but he's got the ability to make a difference. If he keeps going, he'll be one of the world's best players very soon."

The first of his generation

In the eighth minute of play, following a mistake by the Amiens defence, he curled the ball perfectly to deceive Régis Gurtner and put Bordeaux back on level terms. At the end of the first half, he repeated the trick with a free-kick on the edge of the area, blasting a powerful shot around the 'keeper. That made him Bordeaux's youngest player - and the first player born in this millennium - to score a Ligue 1 Conforama double (19 years, 1 month and 27 days).

It had been almost a year since the last Girondin had scored a double (François Kamano in the 3-0 win over FC Nantes on 7 October 2018). With his two goals, Yacine Adli followed in the footsteps of French internationals such as Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembélé - players under 20 who have scored more than one Ligue 1 Conforama goal over the last five seasons.
