Pablo Sarabia reflected on PSG's 9-0 friendly win over Le Havre - a match that saw him bag a double and an assist - and his daily battle to win a starting place in Thomas Tuchel's star-studded team.

PSG's superstars have clearly managed to stay in shape - and in formation - during the lockdown months, as their rampant 9-0 showing against Le Havre showed. And, among the galaxy of stars on show, one of the most prominent was Pablo Sarabia. On hand to score a brace and set up a decisive pass, the Spaniard made no secret of his satisfaction at the end of the match.

"We're gradually trying to regain our confidence and rhythm," explained the 28-year-old attacking midfielder, who will be keen to figure in both the impending domestic cup finals - Saint-Etienne in the Coupe de France (24 July) and OL in the Coupe de la Ligue BKT (31 July). "And we're trying to get back into the best possible shape for the finals. We have to win them."

First-team dream

Should Sarabia be called on by Tuchel in either of those finals, and then turn in the kind of performance he produced against Le Havre, he could well give some of the club's more illustrious attacking talent - the likes of Angel Di Maria, Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Mauro Icardi - reason to look over their shoulders.

However, even if Tuchel doesn't call on him for those two big dates, Sarabia will continue to press his case for inclusion.

"Can you win a starting place with just one performance? As has been the case in years past, I battle to win my place every day," he declared. "I try to score goals and provide assists to help the coach in the best possible way. I'm happy with my performance."

The good news for the former Sevilla FC man is that on top of the cup finals, the club will also be contesting the UEFA Champions League Final 8 and there should be plenty of opportunities for both regulars and substitutes in Paris to look forward to.
