Big central defender Boubakar Kouyaté has left ESTAC Troyes for a four-year tenure with FC Metz after a great 2019-20 campaign.

FC Metz have a new control tower. A year and a half after his arrival at ESTAC Troyes, giant stopper Boubakar Kouyaté (1.93m, 78 kg) committed his next four seasons to Les Grenats. The new number 23 strengthens Metz's defensive sector, which already boasts the talents of Dylan Bronn and John Boye.

A goal-scoring defender

Gifted with a thunderous shot and unsurprising aerial prowess, Boubakar 'Kiki' Kouyaté was ESTAC's top scorer in the championship last season (five goals in 18 games), despite his position at the base of the formation. In total, he scored six goals in 30 games during his time in Ligue 2 BKT.

In Metz, he will be reunited with former teammate Warren Tchimbembe, who also arrived from Troyes over the summer, as well as Mali national-team colleague Mamadou Fofana.

At the age of 23, the Mali stopper is getting ready to make his Ligue 1 Uber Eats debut - and he's clearly stoked.

"It is with great pleasure that I join FC Metz," beamed Kouyaté, whose footballing journey has seen him ply his trade in Mali, Morocco and Portugal before moving to France with Troyes in 2019. "It's a really good Uber Eats League 1 club and I'm convinced that my arrival in Moselle will allow me to continue to make progress. Before coming here, I talked with Mamadou [Fofana] and he had only good things to say."
