Olympique Lyonnais coach Rudi Garcia is counting on captain Memphis Depay for Friday's Ligue 1 Uber Eats trip to Bordeaux.

BORDEAUX - LYON (kick-off 21:00 CEST on Friday)

Depay, a hat-trick scorer in the 4-1 win over Dijon in OL's league opener, has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, where the new coach is his former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman. Depay is now into the final year of his OL contract and is back at the club having feature for the Dutch in their Nations League games against Poland and Italy, continuing his comeback from the serious knee injury sustained playing for OL last December.

Garcia said: "Memphis played very well in our first league game. He then played two games for the Netherlands and that's good because he needed those games. We now need to look after him and see what we can do with him for Friday. There's no reason why he won't be in the squad for the Bordeaux game. I have no news of any offer for him."

Aouar green light

OL are bolstered by the return from coronavirus of Houssem Aouar, the midfielder who missed out on linking up with France because he contracted the virus. Garcia said: "He's back with us and he's got the green lights from the doctors. That's good news. He had to stop for a few days and we'll have to make sure that he's ready for Friday."

Fernando Marçal has been sold to Wolves and more sales are likely, as Garcia well knows. He commented: "Kenny Tete and Ciprian Tatarusanu are on their way out. A coach always wants to keep his best players. I'm thinking of Marçal. I'm going to adapt and find solutions. People always talk about saleable assets and those players are still with us. We'll see. It's all part of this transfer window period that isn't over yet and there are still three weeks to go."

Right-back Rafael was released from the last year of his contract to join Turkish club Basaksehir and amidst the transfer uncertainty Garcia has the challenge of preparing his players for an attempt at extending OL's unbeaten run against Bordeaux to five matches. Garcia said: "Bordeaux have taken four points from two games and they haven't conceded a goal. They're a coherent team with an experienced coach. It would be a very good idea to go and win there."

Gasset: "Deal was to use the squad already in place"

Bordeaux, now coached by veteran Jean-Louis Gasset, have drawn their last four home league games. Gasset said: "The deal when I came to Bordeaux was to use the squad that was already in place. It's about fine-tuning it as it's constructed to play with three at the back and that means there are lost of centre-halves and central attackers. We're gently trying to readjust that and the notion of the squad is very important. There will always be players who are unhappy and who will have an opportunity to leave so we are ready for anything."
