Olympique de Marseille's new forward Arkadiusz Milik is raring to get match sharp and help his side turn around their fortunes.

The Polish international made his debut off the bench in the 3-1 loss at Monaco on Saturday following his move from Napoli and OM need him to get 100% fit and weigh in with goals as soon as possible given their downturn in form, with three straight league defeats.

"I wanted to help this team"

Milik, 26, explained the enthusiasm of coach André Villas-Boas and sporting director Pablo Longoria to bring him to the Orange Vélodrome influenced his decision. He said: "From the beginning the coach and the sporting director were very determined to sign me from Napoli. I wanted to join this club. I was going through a difficult period because I was not playing. For a player, when you are not playing it's always difficult. I saw in their eyes that they really wanted me and that they really need a striker so I was thinking this is a good option for me and I wanted to help this team."

Speaking at his presentation press conference on Tuesday, Milik continued: "I know this team is not in a good moment right now but I am taking this like a challenge. I want to help the team with my goals and determination so I'm going to do everything that I can to show myself and play football and like I said before to help the team win games.

"Of course I am ready to play football. I didn't play for a couple of months and I of course lost a bit of my rhythm but I was training hard, a lot of times twice a day. But of course to get my rhythm back I need a couple of games and I hope as soon as possible I will  be ready to play 90 minutes.

"The team is fantastic"

"It's not a nice moment for everybody when you are not winning games but actually the team is fantastic, the team-mates are good. Of course I don't speak French yet and that makes it quite hard to speak with everybody but the most important thing is that the coach and a couple of the players speak English or Italian and that means there's no problem with communication. The guys are very good and determined to do good. They are motivated so I like it and I will try to help them to be more motivated."

Meanwhile, OM have confirmed the transfer of midfielder Morgan Sanson to Premier League club Aston Villa.
