Lyon are still hopeful they can convince Memphis Depay to stay at the club beyond the expiry of his contract at the end of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 Uber Eats season.
Depay has been one of the chief architects of Lyon's title push this season with the club captain scoring 13 goals and setting up six more in 25 top-flight appearances this term to leave the seven-time champions in third place, three points off top spot.
The former PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United forward has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas believes Depay could still be convinced to sign a new deal.
"Right to the end, we'll believe he'll extend his contract for next season. For the moment, it's not possible, but why not?" Aulas told Le Progres.
"I've always wanted him to stay, but our offers have not been accepted. Each time, we've let him express his ambitions, his values. We helped him to go to Barcelona [last summer], but it wasn't possible economically."
