Pascal Plancque admitted Nîmes might not have deserved their crucial 1-0 home win over Lorient on Wednesday evening, one that lifted Les Crocodiles out of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats relegation zone.

Nîmes struck in the 88th minute through a Renaud Ripart penalty and Plancque said: "We maybe didn't deserve to win, but we did hope to win. It wasn't a hold-up though. Lorient can have regrets, but we haven't stolen anything. It was a penalty. Not everything was perfect but it was a third consecutive match without conceding a goal and that's good for the worst defence in the championship. We need to reproduce that match on Sunday against Nantes. There's still a long way to go for us to stay up."

Pelissier: "There's a lot of frustration"

Lorient hit the woodwork twice and have now lost back-to-back Ligue 1 games after a five-game unbeaten streak to drop into the bottom two. Coach Christophe Pelissier said: "It was really cruel for Lorient and the best team didn't win. We had chances and we should have won. There's a lot of frustration and we're exceptionally disappointed. We thought we'd get at least a point this evening. It's quite tough to take."
