Wins for LOSC, PSG and Lyon ensured that the Ligue 1 Uber Eats top three remains wire-tight, separated by just three points. Monaco remain fourth despite a shock defeat while promoted Lens continued their thrilling push for a European finish.

Leaders LOSC had a last-gasp double from club-record signing Jonathan David to thank for their three-point haul over Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday night, the Canadian international banging home his eighth and ninth goals of the campaign in the final minute to keep Les Dogues atop the Ligue 1 Uber Eats standings.

Hard work paying off for Jonathan David

"We've all been talking to each other this week about having to do more offensively. We're never satisfied with not scoring in a game. We've worked hard this week and it's paid off," said the man of the moment, evidently having heard coach Christophe Glatier's criticisms following their 1-1 draw with Strasbourg at the weekend. "For an attacker, an opportunity can fall at any time. That's what happened with those two goals. You have to be ready for anything and seize every opportunity. What has changed for me? I've had time to adapt. It's never easy when you join a new team, adapting to your team-mates and a new league."

Pochettino hails spirit ahead of Barça clash

The dramatic result maintained a two-point lead over second-placed reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain who, despite the absences of Neymar, Kylian Mbappé, Angel Di Maria and Marco Verratti, secured a solid 1-0 win away to Bordeaux. Handed a rare start, Spain forward Pablo Sarabia took full advantage, conjuring a deft touch and strike to clinch the three points for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

"It was a really really important win for us today," said the PSG boss a week out from the all-important return leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie with Barcelona and with lingering injury concerns over some of his biggest stars. "With all the circumstances it was really important to win the game and in the first half I think the team showed a very good performance and I’m so happy with how we did after the Girondins increased the level and pushed us. We defended really well I think. I’m really happy with the players, the team and the spirit."

Garcia: Memphis 'incredible'

After conceding second place to PSG with a 1-1 draw in last Sunday's Olympico in Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais got back on track with a hard-fought 1-0 win over a Rennes side still reeling from the shock resignation of coach Julien Stéphan on Monday. The Brittany side put on a good showing at the Groupama Stadium but captain fantastic Memphis Depay's fighting spirit conjured a superb assist for hometown hero Houssem Aouar to lash home the winner from close range.

"Houssem scored a great goal with a lot of composure, but we have to praise the incredible work of Memphis," offered OL coach Rudi Garcia. "We accomplished our mission tonight. Given our second-half performance, the victory was deserved. I'm pretty happy to have won this match."

Monaco's mesmerising run ends

Meanwhile the league's longest unbeaten run came to close as AS Monaco were beaten 1-0 by a resurgent Strasbourg side at the Stade de la Meinau. Right wing-back Frédéric Guilbert's lone strike was enough to end the 12-match unbeaten streak (ten wins) but defeat wasn't enough to see Monaco, who have an 11-pint margin over fifth place, slip down the rankings and they remain many pundit's dark horse in this season's thrilling title race.

Lens coming into focus

RC Lens continued their push for a European finish with yet another thrilling display as they toppled Saint-Etienne 3-2, PSG loanee Arnaud Kalimuendo scoring for a second match in a row to help Les Sang et Or leapfrog Metz into fifth. Lens are now unbeaten in seven while Saint-Etienne remain poised just above the drop zone in 16th.

Metz slipped a place due to a 1-0 loss brought on by Angleo Fulgini's spot-kick for Angers, who climb to ninth, while Nice's revival continued as Alexis Claude-Maurice snuck home the winner in a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Nîmes.

Mavididi keeps Montpellier in European hunt

Meanwhile Lorient managed to stay out of the drop zone with a 1-1 draw against seventh-placed Montpellier, for whom Stephy Mavididi's stunning goal stretched their unbeaten run to five in all competitions.

Twelfth-placed Reims had captain Younes Abdelhamid to thank for the winner in the 2-1 triumph over 19th-placed Nantes, with Brest hot on their heels in 13th after an entertaining 3-1 win over relegation favourites Dijon.
