AS Monaco could go second with victory over rock-bottom Dijon FCO on Sunday, but coach Niko Kovac is refusing to get carried away.

Monaco are third in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats standings on 62 points and would go second if they beat Dijon and champions Paris Saint-Germain slip up to RC Strasbourg Alsace on Saturday.

The principality side have a quick turnaround having been taken to extra-time and then penalties by FC Metz in the Coupe de France on Tuesday, but they remain high on confidence having beaten the same opponents 4-0 in the league last Saturday.

Stellar form

Kovac's side have only lost two of their last 20 games in all competitions, and although midfielder Cesc Fabregas stated that the club's goal for the end of the season was a return to Europe having missed out last season, the coach remains temperate.

"We can't talk about the title or the Champions League yet!" he exclaimed when the question was put to him in between Metz fixtures. "We're on a good path. After a two-week break, we're off to a good start. But we know that can change very quickly."

Fresh legs?

Monaco this week confirmed that their new Performance Center would be ready in time for summer 2022. Recent graduates from the existing academy, Sofiane Diop and Willem Geubbels, join Ruben Aguilar on the sidelines for this one, but Kovac has a mostly fit - if tired - squad to choose from.

Visiting Dijon are rock-bottom on 15 points, 14 worse off than Nîmes Olympique with 21 left to play for. Les Hiboux only lost December's reverse fixture 1-0, though, Kevin Volland's goal on 15 minutes proving enough to separate the sides, and David Linarès' side were similarly dogged in losing 2-0 to Olympique de Marseille last Sunday.

Club president Olivier Delcourt said last week that the club were ready to return to Ligue 1 BKT, but until survival is a mathematical impossibility, Kovac's opposite number Linarès is refusing to throw in the towel.

'Fight till the end'

"I didn't see any players who gave up," he said after the OM reverse. "The president's words are his own. You won't hear me concede defeat and talk of relegation. It's a difficult season. I want my players to enjoy their football. We won't give up. We'll continue to work and fight till the end."

Linarès has installed Saturnin Allagbé as his first-choice goalkeeper until the end of the season, with Switzerland under-21 shot-stopper Anthony Racioppi having to settle for a place on the bench. On-loan PSG midfielder Éric Ebimbe has a thigh injury but Dijon will otherwise be at full strength.

Possible teams:

Monaco: Lecomte; Sidibé, Disasi, Badiashile, Henrique; Fofana, Matazo; Golovin, Fabregas, Volland; Ben Yedder

Dijon: Allagbé; Boey, Ecuele Manga, Coulibaly, Ngonda; Ndong, Lautoa; Baldé, Benzia, Celina; Assalé
