Montpellier captain Vitorino Hilton, 43, is currently the oldest player in Ligue 1 Uber Eats and admits the end of his career is near - but the Brazilian has "no desire to call it quits while the stands are empty".

Never say never with Vitorino Hilton. But at 43, Montpellier's Brazilian defender knows that he is probably in the last weeks of his playing career.

Hilton: 'I was going to stop...'

"I was going to stop at the end of this season," he confirmed in an interview with a Swiss website dedicated to his former club Servette FC. "Still, it's clear that I have no desire to call it quits while the stands are empty. I would really like to be able to say goodbye to the fans one last time. But it will be complicated this season."

If one thing is certain, it is that it will be MHSC or nothing. Exotic destinations have "never really attracted" Hilton, who "doesn't intend to wear any shirt than Montpellier's before hanging up the boots".

A move to the bench?

"If I'm still playing football today, it's for the love of the sport, not for financial considerations," replied the Montpellier talisman, who has made 21 out of a possible 34 starts in Ligue 1 Uber Eats this season. "We've already talked about the next stage of my career with Montpellier and I hope it will work out. I hope it will be on the pitch, but I don't know yet."
