Olympique de Marseille have been very active in the transfer market, with the arrival of their eighth recruit on Thursday: William Saliba. The young Arsenal defender has joined the southern giants on a one-year loan deal.

Born and trained in Bondy, like a certain Kylian Mbappé, William Saliba has landed at Olympique de Marseille - his third Ligue 1 Uber Eats club after AS Saint-Etienne and OGC Nice.

Stunning spell at Nice

A France youth international from U16 to U20, William Saliba has been on the books at Arsenal since 2019. However, he has only seldom turned out for the London club, being loaned out to Saint-Etienne in 2019-20 and spending the second half of last season in a highly lauded loan at OGC Nice.

Saliba's move to Marseille should see him get the game time to live up to his promise as one of the Next Big Things in French football, and it will be fascinating to see how he slots in alongside fellow recruit Luan Peres (from Santos in Brazil) and Argentinean stopper Leonardo Balerdi, whose loan deal from Dortmund was made permanent earlier in the transfer window.
