New Bordeaux head coach Vladimir Petkovic admitted his surprise at Bordeaux's approach for him, during his first press conference on Friday evening.
Petkovic, who left his role as Swiss national team coach was installed this week as Jean-Louis Gasset's successor and conceded that he is relishing a return to club football.
A new test
Petkovic said: "After seven years managing the Swiss national team, I wanted to do something different, and that’s why I came here.
Unity
Petkovic was full of praise for Bordeaux owner Gérard Lopez and called for teamwork as the club begin a new era.
"We are on the same wavelength; we all want prestigious results. There is work to do and we will do it together step by step. There is a project here and I enjoy challenges and working with people who want to bring this great club to the levels that Bordeaux fans deserve," said the man who took Switzerland to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals. "When you speak of Bordeaux, you’re talking about a club with prestige, a region with prestige, and supporters with prestige"
